Quick Notes to SCEA Site Representatives

November 6, 2008

Officer/Director Elections

Site Representatives were reminded that nominations are now open for the position of President and that the membership was given notice that the Association will conduct an election in any department where the membership chooses to submit nominations for their Director position. Nominations for the office of President, will remain open until November 14, 2008.

Computer Use Policy

Staff reminded the Site Representatives that they should caution employees regarding the potential misuse of the employer’s computer system. It was noted that the employer may be monitoring use and will take issue with e-mails that contain inappropriate material or subject matters.  This has become an issue in several areas and the inappropriate use of the employer’s e-mail could lead to disciplinary action.

Service to Track Legislation – Statenet.com

Site Representatives were informed that Local #1 has subscribed each Local #1 office to a legislative service called Statenet.com.  With this service staff and/or leadership will be able to track legislation that is relevant to our membership and communicate with legislators effectively.

Post Election Assessment

It was reported that the Board of Supervisors race in District 1 was too close to call with only about 250 votes between Larry Montna and his challenger. It appears that Larry will win but there were still several thousand ballots that still needed to be counted.

 Picnic Vs. Member Appreciation Days

Discussion occurred and it was the consensus of those attending that we should forgo a picnic in 2009 and hold membership appreciation days instead of a picnic.
